Dr. Zdenek Sofer

University of Chemistry and Technology Prague (UCT Prague)
Position: Associated professor at the UCT Prague, Dept. of Inorganic Chemistry, Prague, Czech Republic
Specialization: two-dimensional nanomaterials and nanostructures, nanotubes, chemical modifications, electrochemical, structural and electronic properties.
Education and professional experience:
Z. Sofer (born 1981 in Plzen, Czech Republic) received his MSc (Ing.) in Technology of Advanced Inorganic Materials, UCT Prague in 2004.
Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry, UCT Prague in 2008.
Assoc. Prof. of Inorganic Chemistry, UCT Prague in 2013.
Visiting scientist in Forschungszentrum Jülich (PGI-9; 2004-2005; 10 month) and Universitat Duisburg-Essen (Dept. of Semiconductor Technology; 2008-2009; 3 month).
Currently he led a research group concerning on 2D nanomaterials (6 Ph.D., 2 MSc.). His laboratory is equipped for synthesis and characterization of graphene and other 2D nanomaterials like transition metal dichalcogenides.
Research activities:
CVD of carbon based nanomaterials. Deposition and characterization of carbon nanotubes and graphene based materials. Characterization of carbon nanomaterials – AFM, Raman spectroscopy, SEM, TEM, electrochemistry, thermal analysis.
Synthesis, characterization and chemical modification of 2D nanomaterials - graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides based nanomaterials. Electrochemistry of 2D nanomaterials and their applications for electrocatalysis.
Publications and awards:
More than 190 publications (more than 10 papers with IF>10; ACS Nano, PNAS, Angw. Ch. Int. Ed., Adv. Funct. Mater.), more than 2150 citations, h-index=24, i10-index=61. Rector award for young researcher in 2013. (https://scholar.google.cz/citations?user=uF5Lf8sAAAAJ&hl=cs)
